UFC Mexico City free full fight video: Brandon Moreno vs. Louis Smolka

Flyweight contender Brandon Moreno made his UFC debut last year in Portland, Oregon, as he took on Hawaii’s Louis Smolka on short notice. Moreno was filling in for the injured Sergio Pettis, and having been swiftly eliminated on The Ultimate Fighter 24 tournament, he was a sizable underdog against Smolka.

In a stunning performance, Moreno choked out Smolka with a wicked guillotine, having just failed to submit him on a previous guillotine attempt moments earlier. It was the first time Smolka had been finished, and it also snapped his four-fight winning streak. You can watch the video at the top of the page.

Here’s Tim Burke’s play-by-play of the fight:

Round 1 – They exchange combinations right away. Moreno is fast. Hard body kick from Smolka and he looked for a guillotine. Moreno took him down and worked in Smolka’s open guard. Smolka throwing elbows from the bottom. Moreno with a right but Smolka is up. Moreno with a guillotine attempt! Smolka popped out but he’s right back in another one. He put him to sleep! Moreno with the HUGE upset!

Brandon Moreno defeated Louis Smolka via submission (guillotine choke), 2:23 of round 1

And here’s the BE community’s reaction to the finish:
