Middleweight supremacy is on the line at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada on Saturday, September 16th. On Mexican Independence Day, Mexico’s own Canelo Alvarez (49-1-1, 34 KOs) will look to become the first man to defeat current WBA-IBF-WBC champion Gennady Golovkin (37-0, 33 KOs) in the professional ranks. This has been billed as one of the biggest boxing matches in years, and if Mayweather vs. McGregor was more of a gigantic sideshow, Canelo vs. GGG is a true superfight between two of the best boxers in the world.

This fight has been a dream matchup for boxing fans for a few years, and now we’re seeing it materialize. Canelo is no stranger to big pay-per-view events, but it’s a different story for GGG. He’s proven he can sell out arenas wherever he fights, but he comes into this one as the clear B-side PPV attraction. The 35-year-old has struggled to get that big payday matchup, and he’s got it tonight. GGG is one of the most fearsome power-punchers in the sport, while Canelo possesses terrific technical abilities, as well as good knockout power of his own. Golden Boy Promotions’ Oscar De La Hoya is expecting an all-out war between these two, so hopefully that’s what we get.
