GSP Says He’s In Talks With UFC About Possible Return

UFC superstar Georges St. Pierre has revealed that he’s “talking” with the UFC about a possible return to the Octagon for the first time in over two years.

Speaking while attending a Toronto Raptors basketball game, St. Pierre indicated that it’s still not a done deal that he will make his long-awaited comeback.

“I’m on good terms with UFC, we’re talking,” GSP told tsn.ca. “Everything is possible, but I don’t know right now. I can’t tell you everything.”

GSP last fought at UFC 167 back in November of 2013, successfully defending his welterweight title for the ninth time in a row, though only by a narrow split decision verdict in one of his toughest ever fights in the UFC.

Afterwards, St. Pierre announced that he was taking an indefinite break from the sport and has remained on the sidelines ever since.

However, GSP did show up to watch Conor McGregor fight Nate Diaz at UFC 196 last month which sparked off rumors that he might be on the verge of a return.

That being said, don’t uncork the champagne bottle just yet to celebrate the comeback of one of the UFC’s biggest ever stars as it just so happens that St. Pierre is also looking to promote a new two-part TV show, ‘The Boneyard’ which he will host on the History Channel in Canada this evening.

With that in mind, it’s possible that he’s just stirring up talk of a comeback to generate publicity for that.

Female MMA icon Gina Carano appeared to use a similar tactic in 2014 when she started seriously talking about making her UFC debut against Ronda Rousey right around the time her straight-to-DVD movie, ‘In The Blood’ was set to launch. Her interest in doing so then fizzled out soon afterwards.

Cynicism aside, it is entirely possible that GSP will re-emerge from his lengthy hiatus, though the UFC’s Reebok deal is believed to be a potential stumbling block.
