Anderson Silva Steps Up To Fight Daniel Cormier At UFC 200

The UFC 200 rollercoaster ride continues this evening with the news that UFC legend Anderson Silva has agreed to step up on just two days notice to fight light-heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier.

However, this will be a non-title fight at 205lbs and is only scheduled for three rounds instead of five.

Dana White told ESPN that they actually had three potential options for Cormier’s replacement, with Gegard Mousasi and Dan Henderson being the other two names mentioned.

White revealed that there was some concern about Silva having recently undergone gall-bladder surgery, so they flew him in to Las Vegas today and within the last hour he passed the neccessary medical testing in order to be allowed to compete.

Nobody could ever question Silva’s heart, stepping up in weight on 48hrs notice at the age of 41 to fight the champion, and it’s a remarkable turn of events that adds a huge amount of extra spice to the UFC 200 event to make up for the disappointment of Jon Jones being withdrawn due to a drug test violation.
